Spring is here—come admire the flowers together at the Shilin Official Residence！"2017 Shilin Official Residence Phalaenopsis Exhibition"From the 16th, it will be displayed at the New Orchid Pavilion in Shilin Official Residence Park. Through the thoughtful arrangement by Taipei’s Department of Parks and Recreation, various orchid varieties will be presented in distinct elegant styles. Among the must-sees is the rare patented orchid variety "Purple King," making its first debut in Taiwan！

Taiwan is known as the Kingdom of Orchids, and the annual phalaenopsis exhibitions at Shilin Official Residence Park can be seen as a microcosm of the development of Taiwan’s orchid industry. The Taipei City Department of Parks and Recreation has carefully selected the most representative, novel, and rare orchid varieties since the inception of the exhibition, allowing the public to understand the latest developments in the orchid industry through the event.

▲ The "Leopard Spot Jewel" has flowers several times larger than typical Oncidiums, and its unique leopard-patterned coloration makes it one of the most popular varieties on the market.

Huang Liyuan, Director of the Department of Parks, stated that this Shilin Official Residence Phalaenopsis Exhibition focuses on Oncidiums as the main display. "Oncidiums," also known as dancing ladies, may have small blooms but feature slender stems covered with delicate and beautiful flowers that sway in the wind like dancers, hence earning nicknames such as "dancers in the wind" and "dancing ladies."

He Qihua, Director of the Horticulture Management Office, mentioned that in addition to the rare Purple King and adorable Panda Oncidiums, the exhibition also features brightly colored Dendrobiums and Phalaenopsis to complement the elegant beauty of the Oncidiums. Also not to be missed are the creamy-scented "Creamy Lip" and the "Snow White," the first Taiwanese government-authorized cut Oncidium variety with Japanese breed rights.
