Last updated 2026-09-25 — On my way to class in Yuanlin that day, I stumbled upon an online recommendation for a popular 【Hank Red Bean Pancake】. Lately, there have been quite a few red bean pancake stalls popping up by the roadside, with all kinds of creative fillings—both sweet and savory—stuffed inside. On my way to class in Yuanlin that day, I stumbled upon an online recommendation for a popular 【Hank Red Bean Pancake】. Lately, there have been quite a few red bean pancake stalls popping up by the roadside, with all kinds of creative fillings—both sweet and savory—stuffed inside. But this one in Yuanlin didn’t go overboard with gimmicks (in Taipei, they’ve even stuffed whole pieces of meat into red bean pancakes, XD).

Plus, it’s located on a fairly bustling street, roughly opposite the Yuanlin Cinema and the Lu Rou Bing (pork burger) rice shop—you can’t miss it!

The owner of 【Hank Red Bean Pancake】 is a very lively young man. Don’t believe me? Check out his fan page and you’ll understand XD. In person, the young stall owner is also quite popular, and it feels like customers easily strike up casual chats with him. They open at 1 PM, and by 1:15 PM when we arrived, there was already a line of people waiting to buy red bean pancakes.

Normally, their red bean pancakes come in the six flavors listed on the signboard at the stall. But because business is so good, almost everything is made to order. Ordering might mean waiting five to ten minutes for the freshly baked pancakes to come out. (Since each flavor has a different filling, baking times vary, so a little patience goes a long way!)

And why do I say “normally”? Because sometimes the owner will ask if you want to try other flavors he’s developed himself. Out of curiosity, I tried the one with strawberry POKI sticks that day—and let’s just say not everything pairs well with red bean pancakes, XDD.

All the ingredients used for the pancakes at the stall are homemade by the shop, including the batter, red bean filling, matcha, and custard. The owner will remind you of this too (repeating it over and over, XDDD). But you can really taste the difference when you eat them—same ingredients like red bean and matcha fillings used by every other pancake shop, but Hank’s versions not only have generous portions but also taste really good!

Each red bean pancake costs between NT$12 and NT$15. I haven’t had many red bean pancakes in recent years, so I’m not sure if that’s expensive or cheap. Below, I’ll slowly introduce the few flavors I tried today and also recommend which ones I liked and think are worth trying.

【Hank Red Bean Pancake │ Red Bean Flavor │ NT$12 each】

You have to try the classic flavors. Some budget red bean pancakes have fillings that are just pure mashed red beans—I’m not a fan of the entirely mushy kind. Hank’s filling is fragrant and soft, and you can actually taste the texture of whole soft red beans. It’s not overly sweet but very aromatic, with a hearty and full filling. The pancake crust is slightly crispy, which I really love!

【Hank Red Bean Pancake │ Red Bean & Matcha Mochi Flavor │ NT$20 each】

A combination of two flavors (or rather, three). I really recommend this one. The already excellent red bean filling pairs wonderfully with matcha, almost like a red bean pancake version of matcha shaved ice with sweet red beans. And since the filling is served hot and fresh, the combination of the two different sweet tastes melting in your mouth as you chew is really nice. But I never mentioned the mochi part—it seemed like there wasn’t much mochi (or maybe it was forgotten?), so I forgot to mention it to the owner!

【Hank Red Bean Pancake │ Custard Flavor │ NT$12 each】

This is probably also a classic flavor. It’s filled with a generous amount of hot creamy custard, which kids are sure to love.

【Hank Red Bean Pancake │ Peanut Glutinous Rice Ball Flavor │ NT$15 each】

This one is a bit quirky. When I ordered it, I thought it would be peanut butter with small glutinous rice balls inside, but it turned out to be those Lian Guan-brand peanut glutinous rice balls stuffed in. Be very careful not to burn your mouth when eating it!

Since the glutinous rice ball filling is runny, taking a big bite causes the peanut filling to burst out all at once. I got burned XD. Also, since it’s baked and not boiled, the glutinous rice skin is slightly firm and chewy, and paired with the sweet filling, it’s really delicious!

【Hank Red Bean Pancake │ OREO Flavor │ NT$15 each】

I’m not sure if this is cocoa or OREO flavor. Honestly, there’s not much surprise—it’s just a whole OREO cookie placed inside. But the warm OREO actually tastes pretty good. It’s just that aside from the OREO, there isn’t much else in the filling.

【Hank Red Bean Pancake │ Matcha Flavor │ NT$15 each】

Finally, there’s the single matcha filling. I thought it was pretty good—not overwhelmingly strong in tea flavor, but you can definitely taste the matcha. Personally, I feel that ordering just the matcha flavor alone isn’t as good as paying an extra NT$5 for the red bean & matcha combo, which tastes better!

A red bean pancake shop that’s only been open for two or three months can be this popular simply because it’s delicious. There aren’t any overly flashy gimmicks, aesthetics, or hipster packaging—just solid good taste that makes you love it after one bite. But I don’t love every flavor, so you’ll have to try them all and find your favorite. Sharing my simple thoughts with everyone.
