Xinbei-style Cantonese Roast Meat Shop – Enjoy crispy-skinned, juicy roast duck leg here!

Last time after sharing about “Xincheng Roast Meat,” a friend recommended this place not far away, ‘Mingmen Roast Meat,’ located near the Qizhang MRT Station and Zhongzheng Bridge. Later I also found out that it actually has two other branches, one of which I had visited on Yitong Street before. This place has excellent local reputation – besides satisfyingly devouring a duck leg rice, I also took away a Four Treasures Rice meal to go.

When I visited this time for a meal, I just remembered seeing this roast meat restaurant covered with a metal sheet building near “Laozhuang Beef Noodles” and “Erkong New Village Cold Noodles.” I didn’t notice the name at the time, so I missed the chance to eat here.

The space inside isn’t large and there aren’t many seats either. The weather on the day I visited was slightly cool, not hot. Otherwise, I’d be curious to see how it is in the summer. But it seems most regulars here are takeout customers, and parking nearby isn’t very convenient.

Each item on the menu is NT$90, or NT$120 if you order a larger portion. There are also individual options for roast duck, roast chicken, etc. After checking the details, I found the prices weren’t high at all – no wonder there are so many customers and such a high return rate.

The shop has notices on the walls reminding customers they can choose according to their preferences, and nowadays, adding extra rice costs extra.

Utensils, soups, and side dishes are all self-service. The soup seems to be made from bone broth and tastes quite rich and fragrant. The side condiments include pickled mustard greens, spicy dried radish, and chili-soy sauce, so it’s great to mix some spicy radish in with extra rice.

Wisely really loves duck leg rice with roast pork, so he ordered that again this time to try. Their duck legs aren’t huge but the texture is top-notch – crispy skin, juicy meat, full of flavor. The roast pork slices are thinner but melt in your mouth. The rice is well-cooked but a bit on the small side. The sides are simple but quite tasty.

When leaving, I asked the shop what their signature lunchbox was, and they said the most recommended was the “Four Treasures Rice”! It includes roast pork, roast duck, soy sauce chicken, and char siu, plus half a marinated egg and some vegetables. At NT$120, it’s actually quite a good deal. However, the roast duck provided is the leaner version, and the char siu is the same – it didn’t appeal to me as much as the duck leg with roast pork, but friends who prefer lean meat will probably love it. The soy sauce chicken leg is great though, worth trying again.
