Last updated 2026-09-25 — One of the must-try snacks in Yilan is the scallion pancake. Last time, I specifically asked locals where they go, and to my surprise, everyone recommended the same place — “Dongshan Jinzhu Scallion Pancake.” It was actually already on my long-time to-try list too. Recently, when I visited Luodong to hang out with friends, I found out that “Dongshan Jinzhu Scallion Pancake” (Luodong Branch) was right on the same road. Of course, I had to stop by and give it a try.

One of the must-try snacks in Yilan is the scallion pancake. Last time, I specifically asked locals where they go, and to my surprise, everyone recommended the same place — “Dongshan Jinzhu Scallion Pancake,” which was also on my long-time to-try list. Recently, when I came to Luodong to visit a friend, it turned out the “Dongshan Jinzhu Scallion Pancake” (Luodong Branch) was on the same road, so I just had to grab one.

“Dongshan Jinzhu Scallion Pancake” (Luodong Branch) is located on Section 4, Zhongshan Road, Luodong, Yilan, right across from Zhangziyuan Cultural Park. On weekdays, you usually don’t need to wait in line, saving quite a bit of time compared to the Dongshan branch. Their specialty lies in their homemade dough and special sauces. The generous portions and great texture make it stand out. The crispy yet chewy pancake pairs perfectly with the sweetness of Sanxing scallions and rich egg flavor, making it absolutely delicious. Adding their special spicy sauce takes it to the next level — I highly recommend adding it.

%The location is on Section 4, Zhongshan Road, Luodong, Yilan, right across from Zhangziyuan Cultural Park. On regular days, there’s no need to queue up, so you can save a lot of time compared to the Dongshan store.

%It’s not necessary to queue up even during lunch or dinner hours. We visited around dinner time and there wasn’t much of a crowd.

%The standard version is only NT$35, but it still comes with eggs and scallions. It uses homemade dough and their exclusive sauce. Even if you’re not a fan of scallions, you can opt for a plain egg pancake or a scallion pancake without eggs. It’s very flexible and customizable.

%This version is made using the method from the original store in downtown. There's not much difference in taste. There’s also no need to queue up here, and service is quite fast.

%What we tried was the classic scallion pancake with a nicely fried exterior and tender interior.

%As we were getting hungrier, we ordered another one because one was just not enough.

%The owner said this way, those who don’t like scallions can choose not to add them. But if the Sanxing scallions are kneaded into the dough, customization isn’t possible — how thoughtful of them.

%We also ordered the scallion pancake with ham and egg added. Because we wanted something more filling, we asked for an extra egg. For NT$10 more, you can add an egg, or choose to have no egg for a pure scallion pancake. It’s all very flexible. We wondered why they don’t always add the egg since it’s good, but the boss explained...

%The most popular option is the scallion pancake made with their homemade dough. It’s really tasty.

%The ham they use is imported from Spain, and the yolk has a golden color. The overall appearance is quite appealing.

%The ham tastes really good, and the chewy texture makes it even more enjoyable.

%The scallions used in the pancakes are authentic. They aren’t sourced randomly — they are contracted directly from local farmers in Sanxing, so you’re definitely getting real Sanxing scallions. Some other Yilan scallion pancakes may not use Sanxing scallions, and you can really taste the difference in both flavor and aroma.

%The taste of the egg is rich, not greasy at all. The texture is soft and chewy, with strong flavors of the pancake, egg, and sweet scallions. The special sauce adds a slight spiciness that’s savory, sweet, and spicy — but not overly salty. It’s said that the spicy sauce is made in-house using chili peppers. I’d suggest spice lovers definitely add it.

“Dongshan Jinzhu Scallion Pancake” (Luodong Branch) not only has less of a queue, but also offers large portions, great texture, and homemade dough with specially made sauces that combine for a really delicious flavor. It’s especially great when eaten fresh and hot — the crispy, chewy pancake paired with egg and scallion flavors, plus the sweet, salty, spicy kick, is super appetizing. I fell in love with it after just one bite. Although the taste is different from Ke’s Scallion Pancake in Jiaoxi, both are among our favorites. We highly recommend it. If you’re visiting Luodong or Dongshan, give it a try. You might end up loving it as much as I do.
