Tainan Zhengxing Old Street’s “Christmas Revolution”: Cones and Rice Hanging on Trees Create a Unique Festive Vibe

Where is the most festive place to celebrate Christmas? Tainan’s Zhengxing Old Street has recently launched a “Christmas Street Closure Party,” uniting businesses along the entire street to set up Christmas trees of all sizes. These trees are decorated with unique items such as rice and ice cream cones, and when paired with nighttime lighting, the whole street is transformed into a delightfully charming holiday scene. The area is also adorned with red and green national flags, turning this old neighborhood into a lively and joyful festive hub.

“I’ve always hoped to find a way to bring this old neighborhood near Zhengxing Street back to life.” Xie Xiaowu, the owner of Xie’s Residence, who has long dreamed of revitalizing old buildings, was the driving force behind connecting the “Zhengxing Gang” to launch this Christmas street closure event. Under his call to action, businesses such as Rainbow Came, Xiaoman Cafeteria, Zhengxing Café, Quanwei Family, and Taicheng Fruit Store all contributed funds and effort to co-host the Christmas street parade, all in the hopes of revitalizing the old community and letting everyone experience a brand-new festive atmosphere.

As soon as you step into Zhengxing Street, you’ll see national flags featuring business logos lining both sides of the road, along with a massive 4.5-meter-tall Christmas tree standing proudly in the street. In total, the street features 15 two-meter-high Christmas trees and 10 smaller ones. Shops have used these trees as decorations, adorning them with ice cream cones, tea tins, and rice, filling the street with vitality and enthusiasm.

From now until December 25, customers who shop at participating businesses on Zhengxing Street in Tainan will be entered into a lucky draw. The “Zhengxing Gang” has prepared 3,000 prizes, ensuring that everyone who visits Zhengxing Old Street has a chance to win something. An official Christmas celebration party will be held on December 23 and 24, featuring performances by street artists, DJs, magic shows, and musical feasts, transforming this old neighborhood into a “revolutionary” favorite Christmas parade destination.
