More International Routes Added: Busan and Macau Take Off

In recent years, Taichung and Kaohsiung have continuously expanded their international flight routes, offering travelers more options for overseas trips. Recently, Far Eastern Air Transport launched its Kaohsiung–Busan route, and TransAsia Airways will add a new Taichung–Macau route early next year (2013). Travelers from central and southern Taiwan may want to take note.

Starting from the 21st of this month, Far Eastern Air Transport will operate a flight every five days between Kaohsiung and Busan. The flight departs from Kaohsiung’s Xiaogang Airport at 4:15 PM and arrives at Busan’s Gimhae International Airport at 7:30 PM local time, with a flight duration of 2 hours and 15 minutes. The return flight departs Gimhae Airport at 8:30 PM local time and arrives at Kaohsiung’s Xiaogang Airport at 10:30 PM Taiwan time.

Busan, located at the southeastern tip of South Korea, is the country’s second-largest city, its largest port city, and one of the busiest seaports in the world. With a mild maritime subtropical monsoon climate, Busan is also known as the “summer capital” of Korea. It boasts South Korea’s largest aquarium, the country’s oldest and largest seafood market, the world’s largest department store, and the famous Gwangan Bridge. Even South Korea’s only securities exchange, the Korea Exchange (KRX), is headquartered in Busan.

The launch of the Kaohsiung–Busan route connects two of the most important port cities in Taiwan and South Korea, ensuring seamless air travel between the two regions and directly boosting tourism and business exchanges.

In addition, TransAsia Airways will also launch a new Taichung–Macau route starting January 12, 2013. This is the airline’s first international scheduled flight of 2013 and its first international route departing from Taichung.

TransAsia Airways’ Taichung–Macau route offers one round-trip flight per day, operated by an A320 aircraft that can accommodate 150 passengers. The flight departs Macau at 11:50 AM and arrives at Taichung’s Chingchuankang Airport at 1:30 PM. The return flight departs Taichung at 2:20 PM and arrives in Macau at 3:50 PM. For Taiwanese travelers, this midday departure and return schedule is ideal for planning short weekend getaways.
