Cruise industry hits one million passengers – 6-day, 5-night itinerary given away for free

On the last day of 2017, to review the efforts of Taiwan’s cruise market over the past year and look ahead to the future, the “Taiwan Port Cluster Surpasses One Million Passengers Celebration Event,” jointly organized by the Taiwan International Ports Corporation and Star Cruises, was held at the East Coast Passenger Service Center in Keelung Port. The event also celebrated the port company being awarded Best Cruise Homeport for the year and maintaining its position as Asia’s second-largest cruise passenger source market for two consecutive years—symbolizing that Taiwan’s cruise industry has successfully reached the next international milestone.

The port company stated that in response to Keelung City Government’s New Year’s Eve celebration, the ocean-going cruise ship Ocean Dream, carrying 800 tourists from Japan, docked at Keelung Port’s West Coast on that day for passengers to ring in the New Year in Taiwan. Meanwhile, Star Cruises’ SuperStar Aquarius at the East Coast also meticulously planned a New Year’s Eve voyage. Domestic and international cruise passengers and cruise enthusiasts gathered in Keelung to welcome the dazzling year of 2018 together.

The one-million-passenger celebration event recreated the spectacular dance performances from Star Cruises ships and invited popular internet celebrity “Otaku Xiao Hong” to share her experience on the filial piety cruise aboard SuperStar Aquarius. In addition, the port company and Star Cruises specially planned a “6-day, 5-night cruise itinerary” for lucky winners of the event to take home for free.

Minister of Transportation and Communications Hochen Tan, Keelung Mayor Lin Yu-chang, Chairman Wu Hong-mou of the port company, and Vice President Liu Xiao-ning of Star Cruises were also present to express their congratulations, jointly demonstrating their commitment to developing cruise tourism in Taiwan. A series of exciting activities brought a fresh experience to the people and travelers celebrating New Year’s Eve in Keelung.
