“This is Li Daren. The flight from Taiwan Taoyuan Airport to Happiness takes two hours. Please fasten your seatbelts, return your seatbacks to the upright position, and stow your tray tables. We’re about to take off.” A familiar voice came over the China Airlines in-flight announcement. Passengers turned their heads and couldn’t help but exclaim, “Oh my God, how is Li Daren here?”

You read that right!“Daren Ge” Chen Bolin donned a uniform, held a loudspeaker, and stood in the cabin aisle to make a flight safety announcement. Starting at the gate where he helped passengers tear their tickets to board, he continued offering a series of in-flight services such as making announcements and serving tea and snacks after the passengers were on board. Reflecting on returning to the “aviation world,” Chen Bolin smiled and said, “Putting on the uniform again feels nostalgic, like going back to my school days.”

This in-flight service featuring “Daren Ge” was offered by China Airlines because starting in January, passengers flying with China Airlines could enjoy all 13 episodes of It Started with a Kiss, available on-demand via the personal entertainment system onboard. As the first airline in Taiwan to bring a domestic idol drama to 30,000 feet, China Airlines not only supports Taiwan’s cultural and creative industries, but also allows passengers to revisit the romantic love story between the ideal lover, ground supervisor Li Daren, and the urban mature woman Cheng Youqing.

To show appreciation to long-time fans of China Airlines, the airline held its first in-flight special screening today (the 10th) on a Boeing 747-400 with a new cabin configuration. Golden Bell Award-winning actor Chen Bolin, who plays the China Airlines ground supervisor “Li Daren” in the drama, attended as a one-day supervisor for the “China Airlines Loves You” flight. He assisted passengers with boarding to experience the new business class of the 747-400, joined the cabin crew in making in-flight announcements and serving meals, and even drew lucky fans from among those who came to see him to enjoy a first-class steak meal with “Daren Ge” in the cabin.
