"Plum Blossoms Take Flight!" Wuling Farm’s Flowers Are in Full Bloom – Light Crowds in January, Traffic Controls Start in February

In mid-February, cherry blossoms bloom at Wuling Farm in Taichung, attracting crowds every year. For a quieter flower-viewing experience, it's advised to enjoy the plum blossoms before the end of January. While not as vividly red as cherry blossoms, the plum blossoms are fresh and clean, with white and red varieties intermingling, resembling a gracefully refined beauty. Those insisting on seeing the cherry blossoms should take note that aside from overnight guests, all visitors are required to use public transport to access Wuling Farm; otherwise, they won’t be allowed entry.

Deputy Director Wang Chin-piao stated that due to the long plum blossom season, the crowds are not particularly concentrated. Based on past experience, there are roughly about 1,000 visitors per day. After the plum blossom season ends, starting from mid-February, the popular cherry blossom season begins, lasting approximately three weeks to a month — longer than Japan’s typical 7 to 10-day season.

Wang Chin-piao said traffic during the cherry blossom season is always severely congested. Last year, the 8-kilometer stretch of Taiwan Provincial Highway 7A from Siyuan Pass to Wuling Farm was jammed for 8 to 9 hours, significantly affecting the quality of the travel experience. This year, the highest level of traffic control since the farm opened 50 years ago has been implemented, with a daily visitor limit of 5,000 people. Except for overnight guests, all others must use public transportation to access the farm.

The Directorate General of Highways has mandated that from February 10 to March 5, the daily visitor limit is set at 5,000, which includes 1,800 hikers, campers, and overnight guests, plus 3,200 day-trippers.

Additionally, all day-trippers must take shuttle buses to reach Wuling Farm. Tickets for these buses are sold together with the Wuling Farm admission tickets. Visitors can board Ubus coaches from Taipei Main Station, Taipei Transfer Station, or Yilan Transfer Station. The combined ticket price for bus and farm entry is NT$730, with the entrance ticket not sold separately. Sales begin on January 17 at convenience stores such as Uni-President, FamilyMart, and Hi-Life, as well as at Ubus ticket windows.

For those planning to stay overnight in Lishan before heading to Wuling Farm the next day, between February 9 and March 4, the combined fare for the Fengyuan Bus from Lishan to Wuling Farm and the Wuling Farm admission ticket is NT$320. Tickets will be sold from 6 to 8 p.m. the night before departure at the Lishan Visitor Center, with a limit of six tickets per person.
