After 39 years, the Taiping Mountain Forest Railway mini train has made a comeback. The Sanxing Township Office spent three months creating a 1/3-scale replica, which is set to begin trial operations with passenger rides in March 2018 at Tiansongpi. Riders can enjoy free trips during the trial period.
The timber industry in Taiping Mountain once thrived, driving the development of Tiansongpi and the bustling streets of Sanxing. In the past, the Taiping Mountain Forest Railway mini train was responsible for transporting timber and passengers alike, serving as a cherished childhood memory for many elders. However, with the decline of the industry, the train ceased operations 39 years ago.

To help older residents relive their childhood memories and to share this piece of history with younger generations, the Sanxing Township Office spent three months crafting a 1/3-scale replica. Operated by a single driver controlling an electric locomotive, the train features a 2.1-meter-high front car, followed by two additional cars that can accommodate up to eight passengers in total. With an 8-hour charge, it can run for 6 hours at a speed of 2.4 km/h, completing a loop in about 8 minutes.
The Taiping Mountain Forest Railway mini train is currently on display in front of the Sanxing Township Office. It is scheduled to appear during the 2018 Lunar New Year festivities at the flower festival near the CPC gas station in Sanxing, alongside the flower fields. It will then return to Tiansongpi in March for trial passenger rides. During the trial period, visitors can ride for free, experiencing the charm of the former forest railway. The Tiansongpi Station, a popular filming spot for MVs, features well-preserved Japanese-style wooden architecture that will serve as a new photo hotspot.
