The “2013 Spring Tour to Houtong, Shiding & Jingmei – A Journey of Happiness” invites visitors to experience the touching love story featured in the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival 2013 promotional short film “Because of You, Happiness is Unique.” The film follows a couple from childhood friends and first love, through separation and reunion, all set against the serene backdrops of these towns. Follow their heartfelt story as you explore these mountain villages.


In the story, two childhood sweethearts chase each other on the “Siguangtan Bridge,” their youthful smiles drawing them closer. By the “Houtong Shrine,” floral scents carry their affection as they draw promises on a sky lantern and send it soaring. The lovers part at “Jingmei Station,” but years later, when they return to Pingxi Old Street, their feelings remain strong. This beautiful tale is hidden within this picturesque mountain town.

The “2013 Shuangxi Bike Trail & Pingxi Sky Lanterns – Jingmei Old Street Tour” is designed around low-carbon and healthy living. The itinerary begins at the “Shuangxi Pinglin Leisure Farm,” where visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature and take part in a DIY sweet potato ball workshop, guided by expert eco-tour guides sharing the stories of local plants. Surrounded by greenery, you can momentarily forget the stresses of city life. Next, hop on a bike and leisurely explore the nostalgic paths of Shuangxi Old Street, taking a slow-paced journey through this commercially untouched mountain town. The tour ends at Pingxi Station, where you can revisit the area’s mining heyday through its historic architecture, and write your heartfelt wishes on a sky lantern, wishing for a happy 2013.
