New Taipei Metropolitan Park – Experience the Joy of Feeding Sheep

Within the Greater Taipei metropolitan area, there are two small sheep farms located at the New Taipei Metropolitan Park in the Erchong Floodway of New Taipei City and the Fuzhou Riverside Park in Banqiao, home to families of goats numbering 10 and 5 respectively, of varying sizes. On weekends and holidays, families visiting the green fields can not only interact closely with the flock of sheep but also let their children experience the joy of feeding them firsthand.

Want to get up close and experience the “cute” charm of a flock of sheep? Now you don’t have to travel all the way to Qingjing in Nantou — just head to the New Taipei Metropolitan Park and Fuzhou Riverside Park to fulfill your wish of getting intimate with the fluffy flocks. The New Taipei City Government’s High Plain Engineering Office states that both sheep farms are currently managed by contracted vendors responsible for daily environmental cleaning, with regular washing of the sheep pens and removal of waste every month to maintain a clean living environment for the sheep.

The High Plain Office also mentioned that to ensure the sheep stay in tip-top health, fresh hay as well as salt blocks, dry feed, and other nutritional supplements are provided daily. In addition, qualified veterinarians visit the farm monthly to conduct health check-ups on the flock.

Designated shepherds from the High Plain Office provide specially prepared feed between 10:00–10:30 AM and 4:30–5:00 PM daily, allowing both kids and adults to experience the fun of feeding the animals and enjoying life as an urban farmer. However, the office reminds visitors that sheep have different dietary needs from humans — do not feed them random food to avoid harming their health.
