Strawberry season is here: A light travel itinerary to pick strawberries and soak in hot springs in Miaoli, plus a weekend market visit

Winter is made for strawberry picking in Miaoli. The Dahu Strawberry Season in Miaoli attracts large crowds of tourists every year. A big, bright red strawberry bursting with sweet-and-sour flavor in your mouth is a little winter-only happiness. The Miaoli County Government’s Culture and Tourism Bureau has combined hot spring tourism with local fruit and agricultural specialties to launch the “Strawberry Hot Spring Season” event, aiming to attract weekend light travelers.

Tai’an Hot Springs is one of Miaoli’s actively promoted travel destinations in recent years. In line with the winter-only Dahu strawberry harvest season, a hot spring market event will be held at Dahu Winery on three consecutive Saturdays — January 6, 13, and 20, 2017 — based on the core concepts of local production and local marketing, allowing consumers to taste the freshest and most authentic agricultural products.

According to the “Dahu Strawberry Princess Fan Page,” this year, strawberry farms in Dahu have entered mass production, making the New Year’s holiday break a perfect time for strawberry picking. Additionally, January 6 marks the opening ceremony of the “2017 Miaoli Strawberry Hot Spring Season.” For the following three Saturdays, local hot spring businesses, craft vendors, and specialty snack sellers will set up stalls, featuring cultural performances, themed markets, and creative food booths. A limited-edition hot spring passport is also being offered, giving visitors the chance to experience Taiwan’s unique “beauty hot spring,” and spend a blissful winter picking strawberries and soaking in hot springs.
