If you’re looking for the most “New Year festive” spot in Taiwan, head to Beixili in Yunlin, where a 500-meter-long road is adorned with paper-cut paintings of traditional patterns, brimming with the joyful vibe of Chinese New Year celebrations: the 12 zodiac animals, dragon and lion dances, double happiness symbols, and more. The festive colors have already transformed the usually quiet neighborhood.

This New Year-themed mural was created by artist Cheng Yuandong together with students from Huwei University of Science and Technology. They used projectors to sketch drafts before painting, and it took them over a week to complete. At first glance, the patterns look like hand-applied stickers on the walls, but they were actually all meticulously painted, exuding a rich traditional festive atmosphere.
Suggested itinerary: Rainbow Village, Paper-Cut Art Village → Huwei Charcoal-Grilled Duck Cake → Yunlin Story House → Lunch: A-Shi Mushroom Meatball Soup → Yunlin Puppet Theater: Fun Detention House → Coffee: Huwei Cottage Salon → Dinner: Huwei Farmers’ Association Meatballs and Meatball Soup, Ah Zheng’s Stir-Fried Tibetan Lamb
