Popular turkey rice in Chiayi with a savory soy sauce aroma that’s super addictive!

When most people think of Chiayi food, turkey rice is probably the first thing that comes to mind. But as someone who grew up in Chiayi, I rarely ate it because I usually opted for braised pork rice, haha. Back in middle school, the most well-known one was probably the Turkey Rice at Fountain Circle—since you had to pass by it when taking the bus—but I only tried it a few times and wouldn’t say I loved it. As time passed (and I grew up), with all the information swirling around in the internet era, I realized turkey rice shops in Chiayi are as common as 7-Elevens!

I came across this turkey rice spot in Chiayi’s Minzhu area online—it specializes in turkey “sliced” rice, serving big chunks of turkey instead of the usual shredded version, which makes it more satisfying to eat.

Parking here isn’t very convenient, but Minzhu Turkey Rice has its own parking lot, which is pretty handy.

The prices are clearly listed, but takeout prices are different from dine-in prices.

Aside from turkey rice, there are also plenty of side dishes at very affordable prices.

We ordered a bunch, but today’s sliced turkey rice was already sold out (and it was only the afternoon!), which was such a pity—we had to settle for regular turkey rice.

Although Minzhu Turkey Rice doesn’t serve the big-slice turkey version, the way it’s cut is still into small chunks rather than shredded.

In terms of taste, I’d say it leans toward a salty and savory profile, with a strong soy sauce flavor and a hint of lard aroma.

Cabbage stew—a common side dish at chicken rice shops. The cabbage must be cooked until soft, with a hint of dried shrimp flavor and a touch of sweetness.

Spicy squid—a snack made by soaking dried squid, then blanching it. A must-have at any snack shop!

Garlic chili sauce paired with mustard (mustard powder).

Small intestine soup—this one actually tasted pretty good!
