Closer to Gangnam Style: Budget Airline Adds Taipei–Seoul Route

Budget airlines are making moves again. A Singapore-based low-cost carrier will launch the “Singapore–Taipei–Seoul” route at the end of May, with ticket sales starting on March 25. Travelers planning an overseas trip may want to take a look.

Starting May 29, 2013, Scoot will begin operating the “Singapore–Taipei–Seoul” route, with three flights per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The first wave of ticket pre-sales will be open from March 25 to May 29. Campbell Wilson, CEO of Scoot, said that Seoul, home to 110,000 residents, is a vibrant city full of diverse activities. Once the new route launches, travelers from Taipei and Singapore will be able to more easily visit this city full of “Gangnam Style and kimchi,” which is exciting.

The “Singapore–Taipei–Seoul” route will depart Singapore Changi Airport at 1:35 p.m. every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, arriving at Taoyuan Airport at 6:15 p.m. It will then depart Taoyuan Airport again at 7:15 p.m., arriving at Incheon Airport at 10:35 p.m. The return flight departs Incheon Airport at 11:45 p.m., arriving at Taoyuan Airport at 1:25 a.m. the next day; it then departs Taoyuan Airport at 2:25 a.m., arriving at Changi Airport Terminal 2 at 6:45 a.m.

Travelers are reminded to pay special attention when purchasing budget airline tickets, as most budget carriers do not include checked baggage, meals, seat selection, or insurance. Be sure to carefully confirm the details of your ticket when booking. Additionally, note that Scoot’s “Taipei–Seoul” route features “late departure, late return” flights—so keep that in mind when purchasing your ticket.
