Glass Mazu Temple to Unveil 13.7m "Heaven-Reaching Pillar" at 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival

The 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi will feature the Husheng Temple, Taiwan’s first glass Mazu temple in Changhua County. The 13.7-meter-high glass "Heaven-Reaching Pillar" will be the centerpiece of the lantern display, with hopes of drawing millions of lantern-viewing visitors to Chiayi.

Officially named the "Taiwan Husheng Palace Art Center," the glass Mazu temple was previously invited to showcase lanterns at the Taiwan Lantern Festivals held in Hsinchu, Taoyuan, and Yunlin in 2013, 2016, and 2017 respectively. This year’s main lantern, set to debut in Chiayi, is called the "Heaven-Reaching Pillar." Utilizing cutting-edge glass industry technology, the structure allows visitors to walk inside. As they ascend, the interior reveals a vast cosmos and starry sky. The entrance features the Four Heavenly Kings, the second floor showcases glass deities, the third floor displays the Five Mothers Bestowing Blessings, and the fourth floor is home to the Western Three Saints and the Three Officials. The ground is marked with the 12 Earthly Branches. The design aims to facilitate an environmental and magnetic shift, blessing all visitors with divine protection and the fulfillment of their wishes.
