Day 11 of opening: Green Expo surpasses 100,000 visitors!

2013 Yilan Green Expo has reached its 11th day since opening, and as of today (April 9), cumulative visitor numbers have exceeded 100,000. Mr. Wang Weisheng from Hsinchu City became the lucky 100,000th visitor. The holiday crowd effect this year brought in around 60,000 visitors within four days, showing that the Yilan Green Expo—dedicated to promoting sustainable ecological awareness—is increasingly recognized and welcomed by the public.

Mr. Chen Hsin-i, Secretary-General of Yilan County Government, on behalf of the entire Green Expo team, joyfully welcomed the 100,000th visitor at the park entrance. Mr. Wang Weisheng from Hsinchu City was the lucky one. Mr. Wang and his family of seven set off yesterday for a planned six-day island-wide trip and arrived at the Yilan Green Expo today. Mr. Wang said it was his first time visiting the Green Expo. Having heard that it’s Yilan’s flagship spring event, he brought his whole family to get close to nature. He expressed great surprise and excitement about becoming the 100,000th visitor, and plans to visit Yilan again after completing his current island tour.

Secretary-General Chen Hsin-i also presented gifts including a stay voucher at Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Jiaoxi), a hot spring bathing voucher for Jiaoxi Hot Spring Park, as well as related Yilan organic products and souvenirs, with a total value of over NT$10,000. Chen noted that although the weather since the opening hasn’t been ideal, the holiday crowd effect still drew large numbers of visitors. He added that this year’s diverse themes at the Green Expo have noticeably increased visitor interest. He also mentioned that this year’s Green Expo introduced more varied services and content in terms of themes and exhibition planning, all contributing to breaking the 100,000 cumulative visitor mark on just the 11th day of opening.

This year’s newly launched Big Stone Drum Secret Realm, an immersive nature exploration experience, has been hugely popular not only because it's the first time the area has been open in 20 years, but also due to the highly praised guides who deliver insightful and vivid introductions—making each guided session fill up almost instantly. Additionally, the Earth Ranch is another extremely popular area. This year, the animal zone was moved to the opposite side of Wushikeng Creek for the first time, truly creating a ranch atmosphere. All the animals are happily roaming the grassy fields under the blue sky and white clouds, with care from veterinarians. The Earth Ranch also features exciting grassland concerts every weekend, inviting well-known artists to perform and interact with visitors on the expansive field. Furthermore, “Lanyang’s Hidden Traces” in the Lanyang Good Images section is a wonderland for adults to rediscover their childlike wonder, and a favorite play area for kids. Also popular is the themed puppet show “Frog Tribe,” specially created for the Green Expo by the renowned puppet theater group Wuzhongwuyou.
