The flagship store of ZhuYuan meatballs in Changhua’s Beimen raises prices by 25%      Large ones to cost NT$100 after May 1

You must try meatballs when visiting Changhua! The Beimen meatball shop (head store on Zhongzheng Road), beloved by locals, features crispy outer skins and soft fillings, setting it apart from typical meatballs. However, to comply with invoicing regulations, the shop announced price hikes starting May 1. Small meatballs will rise from NT$40 to NT$50 each, large ones from NT$80 to NT$100, and soup dishes from NT$40 to NT$50.

The specialty of Beimen meatballs is that they are deep-fried at high temperatures after being steamed, giving the skin a uniquely crispy exterior and soft interior, unlike other types of meatballs. As for the filling, it’s made with pork leg meat, mushrooms, and eggs. Large meatballs not only have more filling but also include dried scallops.

Responses from netizens regarding the price increase have been mostly negative. Some believe the business tax shouldn’t be passed on to consumers, while others feel the NT$20 (25%) jump for large meatballs is too steep — considering the sales tax is only 5%, NT$100 is simply too much to pay.
