India’s “Coffin” Tea Restaurant  Unmarked Tombs Keep You Company at the Table

There is an extremely popular restaurant in India called “New Lucky Restaurant,” which is said to offer diners a unique kind of “luck” because it is built right in the middle of a cemetery, with several tombs even located along the walkways inside. To dine here, customers not only have to walk through the graveyard to enter the restaurant but also sit right beside the tombs—offering an extraordinary experience where life and death feel just a breath apart.

In Indian culture, death is seen as rebirth and a sacred cycle of life. This belief is embraced by the “New Lucky Restaurant” located in a western Indian city. Operating for over 50 years, the restaurant is situated within a cemetery and still houses several tombs and stone coffins that have endured for decades. Every morning, the restaurant staff carefully clean each tomb and place fresh flowers on the stone coffins before opening for business.

Dubbed by tourists as “a place you need courage to enter,” this tomb restaurant originally started as a small tea stall next to a cemetery. Unexpectedly, its location near the graveyard turned out to be great for business, so the eatery gradually expanded, eventually encompassing several tombs within its walls. It is said that the restaurant’s owners not only don’t mind operating in a cemetery but actually believe the stone coffins and graves bring them “sacred good luck.”
