▲The warm impression of Hawaii, and its uniquely flavored cuisine.
Travel Center / Taipei Report
The warm sunshine, azure coastline, and distinctive flavors of Hawaiian cuisine are what people associate with Hawaii. This island paradise is also a top holiday destination for travelers. And if you can’t fly abroad to enjoy Hawaiian food, you can still savor it right here in Taiwan!
From May 23 to 30, the Grand Hotel Taipei and the Hawaii Tourism Authority are hosting the “Hawaii Food Festival” in the Songhe Hall. They have invited Russell Siu, the operator and executive chef of the renowned restaurant 3660 on the Rise, to serve as the guest chef, bringing authentic Hawaiian dishes to the public. This allows locals to experience the rich flavors and vibrant culture of Hawaiian cuisine without leaving the country. Additionally, grand prizes such as round-trip tickets from Taipei to Hawaii on China Airlines and afternoon tea vouchers at the Grand Hotel Taipei will be up for grabs.
Hawaiian cuisine blends elements from China, Japan, Portugal, the Philippines, Korea, and other countries, creating a unique “Hawaii Regional Cuisine (HRC).” For this event, guest chef Russell Siu takes inspiration from taro, a traditional staple, and presents dishes such as “Shrimp & Taro Cakes with Sweet Corn.” He also offers “Grilled Coffee Beef with Black Pepper Sauce,” made using 100% Hawaiian Kona coffee beans from Mulvadi. Another highlight is the classic Hawaiian appetizer “Ahi Poke,” made with raw tuna cubes seasoned with onions, seaweed, and sesame oil. Furthermore, the chef combines Japanese culinary influences to offer “Marinated Cod with Japanese Ginger Soy Sauce,” giving guests a taste of diverse and exciting flavors.
During the “Hawaii Food Festival,” diners who spend NT$1,000 or more during lunch or dinner will receive one raffle ticket. Prizes include round-trip tickets from Taipei to Hawaii on China Airlines, weekday afternoon tea vouchers at the Songhe Hall of the Grand Hotel Taipei, and PUKA Tuned Series ukuleles.
