Hidden under the Chongxin Bridge in the Greater Taipei Metropolitan Park, “Chongxin Morning Market” is the largest flea market in the Greater Taipei area. From second-hand clothes to old 3C products, the market offers an incredibly wide variety of goods. After browsing, visitors can enjoy delicious snacks at the food stalls at the end of the market. Combined with nearby bike paths, sports fields, and the Happy Water Ripple Garden, it becomes a multifunctional weekend leisure destination for eating, playing, and having fun.

According to market management and the editor, the Chongxin Bridge tourist market (within the Greater Taipei Metropolitan Park / Ershui Flood Diversion Channel) has long been a nationally renowned second-hand market. A few years ago, the New Taipei City Government (then Taipei County Government) temporarily closed it for drainage system improvements and greening projects, reopening only in 2006. On sunny holidays, the Chongxin Morning Market can host over 500 vendors—a truly astonishing scale.

Although the weather wasn’t ideal—with light drizzle falling on the day of the editor’s visit—the place was still packed with people, making it hard to move. Many visitors came here to hunt for treasures and bargains. Aside from discovering rare items no longer commonly found in stores, another major highlight of flea markets is the fun of haggling with vendors. This uniquely human and personal trading experience is far more engaging than simply clicking around on online auction sites.

At the end of the market, there are also many snack stalls. Common night market delights like oyster omelets, pork bone soup, and Fuzhou cakes can all be found here. The editor personally recommends the braised pork rice—the long-simmered braising juice is rich and gelatinous, creating a thick, sticky texture. The sweet-and-salty, fatty-yet-lean braised pork paired with steamed rice is a bite to remember, rivaling any famous shop in northern Taiwan. The only downside?... Well, the editor’s diet plan just went out the window.

By the way, the Chongxin Morning Market is open from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM on weekdays and from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM on weekends. Friends looking to hunt for treasures and enjoy delicious food shouldn’t miss out—don’t oversleep.
