Fresh green bamboo shoots are on sale at 30% off — the public rushes to buy them in the sweltering summer heat.

To promote “New Taipei City green bamboo shoots,” the New Taipei City Government Agriculture Bureau partnered with a department store to hold a sales event at the main entrance on the first floor of Jingtai Plaza. They offered a limited-time 30% discount flash sale on green bamboo shoots and had celebrity chef Lin Rong demonstrate signature bamboo shoot dishes. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd.

Lin Rong-ching, Director of the New Taipei City Agriculture Bureau, stated that New Taipei City has the largest green bamboo shoot planting area in the country, accounting for about 45%, with a production of 13,000 metric tons. The annual harvest season runs from May to October, with the peak season from June to August—making now the best time to enjoy green bamboo shoots. The main production areas in New Taipei City include Bali, Wugu, and Sanxia, followed by Xindian, Shenkeng, Pingxi, Taishan, and Linkou. Each area, due to its unique natural geography, has developed its own distinctive variety of green bamboo shoots.

Green bamboo shoots are rich in dietary fiber, which helps promote gastrointestinal motility and aids digestion. They are also low in calories and cholesterol, making them a healthy agricultural product ideal for weight control—perfect for hot summer days. They can be enjoyed fresh without any added seasoning. Especially with recent concerns over toxic starch, choosing non-toxic and healthy green bamboo shoots is the best option.

The event today (1st) in the afternoon featured renowned chef and beautiful cooking personality Lin Rong, who demonstrated a refreshing, cooling, appetite-stimulating, and healthy dish: “Beijing-style Spicy and Sour Cold Bamboo Shoot Salad.” A tasting session was also held. Many members of the public, while out shopping, not only tasted the freshest seasonal green bamboo shoots but also snapped up the limited 30% discounted bamboo shoot products. The scene was bustling and lively. There will be another flash sale event this Sunday (2nd) at 3:30 PM, also with a limited 30% discount. Those who want to enjoy the cool, fresh green bamboo shoots of the season should seize the opportunity.

The Agriculture Bureau stated that all the green bamboo shoots sold at this event were harvested directly from the growing regions and delivered straight to the venue for sale, ensuring the highest quality and freshness. New Taipei City currently has two morning direct-sales centers for green bamboo shoots operated by the Bali District and Wugu District Farmer’s Associations. The Wuliao Street in Sanxia also hosts a green bamboo shoot trading market at noon. Other production area farmer’s associations also guide bamboo shoot farmers in self-production and self-marketing, offering the freshest and highest-quality green bamboo shoots of the season. Residents who wish to purchase them may contact the farmer’s associations in each production area.
