Tainan’s Golden Shower Tree Flower Season to Kick Off Next Week – Petals Falling Like “Golden Rain”

Due to climatic factors, the blooming period of the golden shower trees in Tainan’s Hutoupi Scenic Area started later than in previous years. Coupled with days of heavy rain recently, many flowers were knocked down by the downpour. The floral display is expected to be more splendid next week. After evaluation by the Tainan City Government, this year’s expanded Golden Shower Tree Flower Season has been postponed to officially begin on the 8th.

Every early summer around early May, the entire Hutoupi Scenic Area in Tainan turns golden yellow under the bloom of golden shower trees. When the wind blows, petals fall like rain, creating a “golden rain” spectacle across the scenic area. Many tourists visit specifically for this stunning scene. However, due to climatic factors this year, the flower season started later than usual, and consecutive days of heavy rain also knocked down many petals in the park. To avoid disappointing visitors, the Tainan City Government decided, after thorough evaluation, to postpone the flower season and officially launch it on the 8th.

Since 2008, the Hutoupi Scenic Area has held the “Golden Shower Tree Flower Season” every year, with visitor numbers hitting new highs annually and receiving widespread praise from travelers. Therefore, the Tainan City Government decided to expand this year’s flower season. While the main venue remains the Hutoupi Scenic Area, it has been expanded into the “Tainan Golden Shower Tree Flower Season,” including additional locations such as Liantan and Zhao’an Village in Baihe District, National Cheng Kung University in the East District, Zhongyi Elementary School in the West-Central District, and National Cheng Kung University, among others. Through this flower season, visitors can not only admire the beautiful golden rain but also experience the authentic charm of Tainan City.

To promote the Tainan Golden Shower Tree Flower Season and boost tourism, the organizers have also launched a photography contest in conjunction with the flower season. Photos taken this year are eligible to participate, but must feature the main attractions of the 2013 Tainan Golden Shower Tree Flower Season. The total prize pool for the photography contest is as high as NT$25,000.
