To celebrate the 102nd Railway Day, the Alishan Forest Railway will deploy its national treasure steam trains to carry passengers on June 9, attracting railway enthusiasts eager to experience this unique journey.
Managed by the Taiwan Railways Administration since May, the Alishan Forest Railway will replace its usual air-conditioned standard trains on the Chiayi–Zhushan route and the Shueiping shuttle within the Alishan Forest Recreation Area with steam locomotives and cypress wood carriages on June 9 to mark the 102nd Railway Day. This allows the public to enjoy a ride on a national treasure train at regular fares.
For the steam train revival event, two round trips will run between Chiayi and Zhushan. Fares are NT$15 for a one-way full fare from Chiayi to Beimen, NT$40 for a one-way full fare from Chiayi to Zhushan, and NT$70 for a round trip. Each train is limited to 200 passengers.
Eight round trips will operate on the Shueiping Line, with one-way full fares at NT$50 and round-trip tickets at NT$80. Each train also has a passenger limit of 200. Alishan Forest Railway tickets are not available for advance purchase—passengers must buy them on-site on June 9.
