Bikers flock to Japan for a comfortable cycling trip in Karuizawa

For modern people, traveling abroad is no longer a difficult task. In recent years, a cycling craze has emerged domestically. Cycling enthusiasts carry their beloved bikes and ride around, making their trips more enjoyable. Domestic travel agencies have also spotted this business opportunity and launched a series of “cycling abroad” packages, allowing bike lovers to enjoy the thrill of cycling overseas.

Karuizawa, located at the border of Nagano Prefecture and Gunma Prefecture in Japan, is a well-known summer resort. It was developed by Western expatriates in the late 1800s and has grown into a mountain resort. Situated on a plateau at an altitude of about 1,000 meters, its cool and pleasant climate and lush greenery attract many domestic and international visitors for leisure and vacation. Some political and business elites even own villas here. John Lennon of The Beatles used to bring his family here for summer vacations every year before his passing, and Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan also met and fell in love at the tennis club in Karuizawa.

Since the opening of the “Hokuriku Shinkansen (Nagano Shinkansen),” traveling between Tokyo and Karuizawa has become more convenient, taking only about an hour. In Karuizawa, visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as tennis, hiking, cycling, golfing, and skiing. Ice skating is also available in both summer and winter, and there are shopping streets to fulfill your “shopping” needs.

Travel agencies have also partnered with local Japanese organizations and government tourism associations to provide essential services including transportation, meals, and promotion. This allows Taiwanese cycling enthusiasts to experience high-level cycling events in Japan, exchange knowledge on cycling safety, etiquette, and culture, making for a pleasant and relaxing cycling journey.
