When it comes to the coastal city of Kaohsiung, one can’t forget about the Love River, which has become one of the city’s most iconic attractions. Events such as the Dragon Boat Festival races, Lantern Festival celebrations, and triathlons are all held along the river. In recent years, the Kaohsiung Harbor Shipping Company has been actively promoting ferry and cruise services on the Love River and in Kaohsiung Harbor, including the solar-powered love boat and sightseeing harbor cruises, making them the top choice for locals exploring the Love River.

For sightseeing cruises, operators are promoting a “Gourmet at Sea” experience. Starting at 5:30 p.m. daily, visitors can enjoy a buffet dinner on board while leisurely cruising between Pier 1 and Pier 2 of the harbor for 100 minutes, pairing delicious food with the sunset and taking in the beautiful scenery along the way. On weekends, there’s also a “Weekend Harbor Fun Cruise” that runs for one hour with professional guided tours of Kaohsiung Harbor.

The shipping company, in line with the Kaohsiung City Government’s push for green energy, has introduced the “solar-powered love boat,” which offers increased passenger capacity and improved service quality. Currently, each boat can accommodate 42 people, reducing wait times for boarding. Operating hours are from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. As for ferries, there are the “Zhenqi Route” between True Love Pier and Cijin, and the “Cijin Ferry” between Cijin and Gushan. Cards such as the Kaohsiung MRT Card, EasyCard, Taiwan Smart Card, and FarEasTone Card are all accepted.

With the Dragon Boat Festival approaching, the Love River will host an International Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament from June 9 to 12. The shipping company is also offering special cruise-and-watch discounts. During the event, local citizens can ride the “solar-powered love boat” for just NT$80 (full fare), a NT$40 discount.
