One of the most frustrating things about traveling is rushing to the airport hours in advance just to stand in line for check-in and baggage handling — especially when you still have several hours before your flight. It’s simply not cost-effective. But now, if you’re flying with ANA, while others are waiting in long queues hours ahead, you can still enjoy your pre-travel time to the fullest. That’s because ANA has recently set up five automated baggage drop machines at Tokyo Haneda Airport. Together with the self-check-in kiosks, you can now independently complete both check-in and baggage drop in just a few minutes, truly making air travel more convenient and efficient.

Three Simple Steps to Use the Automated Bag Drop Machine

The touch screen of the automated baggage drop machine supports Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese (both simplified and traditional), and the operation is very simple — you can check in your luggage in as little as one minute.

  1. Place your luggage properly in the designated area shown on the screen.
  2. Take out your boarding pass and scan it using the automated baggage drop machine.
  3. The machine will automatically print your baggage tag, which you can then attach to your luggage.

After completing these three steps, the machine door will close (if everything goes smoothly), and you’ll receive a baggage receipt. The machine will also scan your luggage for any prohibited items, and if any are detected, it will automatically alert the staff.

ANA says it hopes to increase the number of automated baggage drop machines to 39 within this year. However, for now, they are only available at Tokyo Haneda Airport, as well as airports in Germany and the Netherlands. Other airports will have to wait a bit longer.
