Sun Princess Makes Second Visit to Kaohsiung Port; Chen Chu to Sail to Japan to Boost Tourism

The Sun Princess, operated by Princess Cruises under the world’s largest cruise group, will make its second visit to Kaohsiung Port following last month’s stop. On the 29th, it will dock at Banana Pier, where Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu will lead Ocean Affairs Bureau Director Lan Chien-chang and Tourism Bureau Director Hsu Chuan-sheng on a voyage to Kobe, Japan, to promote Kaohsiung tourism.

This year, the Sun Princess has launched its Asian cruise route for the first time. In addition to stopping at renowned ports such as Tokyo, Kochi, Nagasaki, and Hakodate in Japan, and Jeju Island and Busan in South Korea, it has also included Taiwan in its itinerary for the first time, choosing the harbor city of Kaohsiung as its first port of call.

The Kaohsiung City Government stated that Kaohsiung Port has the conditions and potential to develop as a home port for cruise ships. Since 2010, it has been fully collaborating with the maritime industry to promote the city’s cruise industry. The currently under-construction “Kaohsiung Harbor Travel and Transportation Center” can accommodate two large 225,000-ton cruise ships simultaneously, actively striving to establish Kaohsiung as a home port for cruises in Southeast Asia and between both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

The Sun Princess is equipped with facilities such as a casino, library, amphitheater, outdoor open-air cinema, and medical services. During this stop at Kaohsiung Port, it is expected that over a thousand tourists will visit the city for a one-day tour, experiencing the vibrant and passionate image of southern Taiwan’s port city.
