Summer vacation is approaching, and besides popular beach destinations, aquariums with cute animals are also a great choice for family trips. The National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium in New Taipei City has introduced new attractions for the summer, including a limited-time Russian synchronized swimming troupe, an entertaining water theater, and a special marine life exhibition. Anticipating high summer crowds, the aquarium has added extra shows to ensure you won’t miss out.

Don’t be lazy this summer. To encourage visitors to come out early, Chen Meichen, PR manager of the National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium, said that anyone who buys tickets and enters before 10 a.m. from Mondays to Fridays in July can get a rice burger breakfast for just NT$59. Kids can enjoy their breakfast while watching the lively and funny sea lion "King of Antics" and the super-popular animal star, the dolphin—guaranteed to bring smiles to everyone’s faces.

Summer is the peak season for the National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium, with many individual visitors as well as groups coming to explore and have fun. Chen Meichen recommends the summer-exclusive "Russian Synchronized Swimming" show, featuring a specially invited international high-diving performance troupe from Russia. In addition to thrilling and breathtaking stunts, there’s also the African mythology-themed "Mermaid and Shark" theater performed by the high-diving team, along with hilarious comedy skits. The performances change every year and will run only until October 23.

If one hour of performance isn’t enough, the underwater tunnel inside the cave showcases hundreds of marine species, including lionfish, frogfish, sea turtles, and sharks—all up close as they swim right before your eyes. Visitors can even experience what it’s like to be “shocked” by an electric fish. The touch pool features horseshoe crabs, starfish, and small dogfish, and the unique texture of shark skin is truly indescribable. Additionally, there’s a different themed marine life exhibition every six months. This summer, the focus is on the charming yet dangerous “smiling demon”—stingrays—teaching visitors how to distinguish between rays, skates, mantas, and cartilaginous fish, all while having fun and learning.
