【Real Snakes as Companions】A Japanese Snake Café Boldly Plays on “Seeing Snakes in the Cup”

Cafés aren’t just for hipsters to hang out — ever since the rise of cat and dog cafés, it’s clear most people are there for more than just the coffee. So why not take it up a notch?TokyoIn Harajuku, someone has even more daringly opened the Tokyo Snake Center — a real live snake café!
Currently, the snake den houses about 40 snakes, including various species such as corn snakes and ball pythons. For an admission fee of ¥1000 / HK$65 (which includes one drink), you can choose any snake to keep you company. All snakes are kept in transparent boxes and are quite docile. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous and want to hold one, it’s just an additional ¥540 / HK$35. There are also veterinarians and staff on-site to ensure safety. The café has transitioned from limited-time events to a permanent shop, and within its first month of opening, it attracted over a thousand visitors — showing strong market potential. Who knows, maybe bugs, rodents, or ants will join the lineup soon?
