South Korea’s Longest Railway Ocean Train: The S-Train Tour of Jeollanam-do

Japanese railway travel is probably familiar to most, but did you know that South Korea also offers tourist trains called the Loop Train (O-Train), Valley Train (V-Train), and Ocean Train (S-Train)? Each route has its own unique features, offering views of the natural scenery in central and southern South Korea. Among them, the S-Train is the longest cross-country railway in the country.

The S-Train includes two routes: one connects Busan to Boseong in Jeollanam-do, and the other runs directly from Seoul to Yeosu EXPO Station. The “S” stands for the winding coastline of the southern provinces, and also represents “sea” and “slow.” The train’s design features ocean-blue colors along with traditional Korean patterns such as turtle ships, winter-blooming flowers, and cranes—symbols of the southern islands—adding a poetic touch.

The fifth carriage of the train is designed with observation seats offering unobstructed views of the stunning coastline, family seats, and cozy couple seats perfect for a romantic getaway. The most special feature is the tea ceremony room located in the fourth carriage, which provides passengers with a unique Korean tea experience (for an additional fee), and is one of the many charms of the S-Train.
