In Hong Kong, forget about revitalization—even preserving Hong Kong-style culture is a challenge. Maybe we should learn from our neighborSingaporewhich is renowned for environmental protection and excels in green infrastructure. Recently, they’ve launched a new initiative.

This project, titled “The Rail Corridor,” primarily includes greening efforts, pedestrian pathways, and surrounding developments. The plan aims to integrate the local landscape and street scenes, incorporating existing former railway stations rather than building an entirely new park.
The hiking trail will start at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station and end at Bukit Timah Railway Station, spanning a total of 24 kilometers. The project will be led by Japanese designer Nikken Sekkei, in collaboration with TierraA joint project by Arup, though the completion date has yet to be officially announced.
In fact, as early as February 20 (the second day of the Lunar New Year holiday), Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was opened to the public for visits, allowing people to appreciate this historically significant building. It will also be open to the public during every subsequent public holiday, welcoming visitors to come and take photos. The opening hours are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
