【But with No Regrets】Hong Kong Couple Quits Jobs to Open a B&B in Italy

“How many decades does one have in a lifetime?” If you don’t do something now, there’s no guarantee you’ll get another chance later. With this mindset, Hong Kong woman Cammy resolutely gave up everything in Hong Kong and movedto Italyto take over a local B&B in northwestern Asti, becoming the master of their own lives.

“Last year we traveled aroundEuropefor a year, hoping to experience a different life. We happened to meet the owners of a local B&B here, and learned that the original owners were about to retire. After much thought, we finally decided to leave our jobs in Hong Kong and start a new life here.”

Of course, arriving in a new place wasn’t easy at first. Fortunately, the previous B&B owners spent three months helping them with the handover so they could learn how the place operated. Coupled with their year of traveling across Europe, the transition was relatively smooth. After taking over the B&B, Cammy added many new elements on top of the basic services—such as letting guests drink and chat by the pool, or taking them to explore nearby wineries to gain a deeper understanding ofItaly.

Resigning boldly takes a great deal of courage. Where does that courage come from?

“To be honest, life in Hong Kong is all about hustle and bustle, and buying a flat can take your whole life. Sometimes it feels exhausting. When this opportunity came along, we thought, why not give it a try? Maybe we’ll carve out a whole new world. And even if we don’t succeed, at least we’ll have no regrets about our lives.”
