Travelers away from home often long for the taste of their hometown. Wouldn’t it feel a little closer to home if you could enjoy “Grandma’s cooking” on a plane? A domestic airline has brought Grandma’s pasta and lotus leaf steamed rice on board, filling the cabin with a nostalgic aroma.

This series of “Taiwan Grandma’s Traditional Meat Marinade Meal Sets” is a collaboration between EVA Air and Yung Foong Yu Technology. The star of the show, “Super Grandma” — Li Jin’e, is quite well-known in Tainan. She insists on using traditional cooking methods to ensure healthy eating. That’s why the “meat marinade” in this meal set combines Taiwan’s organic ingredients with Grandma’s craftsmanship. He Yijia, General Manager of Yung Foong Yu Technology, said: “Grandma is very particular about her ingredients. She usesTaiya tribe’s wood-fired shiitake mushrooms and dried shrimp, insisting they be sun-dried to preserve the flavor of the sun. Once, I added oil to the pork belly, which upset Grandma because she believes pork belly already has enough fat, and adding extra oil is unhealthy.” He Yijia also noted that besides consistently using Taiwan-grown organic ingredients, this meal set emphasizes the “aroma” of the ingredients. The core idea is to create comforting meals for premium passengers on board.

He Yijia especially emphasized the concept of “From Farm to Sky,” meaning bringing the dedication of Taiwan’s small farmers and Grandma’s cooking to the skies and to the international stage. Starting today, the “Taiwan Grandma’s Traditional Meat Marinade Meal Set” is available on EVA Air’s Crown and Royal Laurel Class cabins for flights departing Taipei to destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Paris, and Vancouver.
