A hidden gem known only to foodies, this shrimp roll shop has preserved its traditional flavors for 68 years. Made fresh to order and fried right before serving, with limited daily availability. The crispy, non-greasy exterior and generously filled, flavorful interior have made these a lifelong favorite for many locals.

Originally started at the Minzu Road Night Market, it moved to Yamaoliao Market after the night market was demolished, then relocated to the end of Chenggong Road in 2005, and finally settled at its current permanent location in 2007, where they even bought the property.

The dining area is spacious and clean, though the chairs are a bit too close together.

The afternoon-only operating hours continue the shop’s early tradition from Yamaoliao Market, where they would only open after the morning market closed. Business hours vary and are posted in advance inside the shop. Those coming from afar are advised to call ahead to confirm availability to avoid a wasted trip.

Prices are very affordable—you can easily get full with change left from ¥100. If ¥100 isn’t enough for you, maybe it’s time to think about losing some weight.

The shrimp rolls are made fresh to order and deep-fried. The filling includes fire-roasted shrimp, cabbage, and scallions, wrapped in pork mesentery membrane, coated with a special batter, and then fried. The crust is as crispy as a cookie and completely non-greasy, thanks to the absence of minced pork and the generous amount of cabbage. For takeout, the rolls are wrapped in bamboo leaves (traditionally used for zongzi) to keep the crust ventilated and maintain crispiness—a true taste of old-school cooking.

Paired with pickled radish slices, they’re even more refreshing and appetizing. If one order isn’t enough, you can always follow my lead and order an extra plate.

Fish ball crispy meat soup—most store-bought fish balls are made from milkfish, but theirs are made from pomfret, giving them a uniquely chewy texture. “Crispy meat” refers to pork cheek, which is firm and full of bite.
