Taiwan’s Largest Ferris Wheel, "Sky Dream," Officially Opens Today—Moms Get 50% Off with Valid ID

The "Sky Dream SKY DREAM" ferris wheel, invested in by the Lihpao Group with NT$550 million, took nearly three years and involved the assembly work of nearly ten thousand engineers.It features 60 cabins, takes 25 minutes per rotation, has a diameter of 120 meters, and reaches a total height of 384 meters above sea level, making it the largest in Taiwan and the seventh largest in the world.Offering views of mountains and seas, it has become the “Eye of Taichung” and the “Heart of Taiwan,” with an estimated annual turnout of one million visitors after its official launch.

The Sky Dream ferris wheel was designed and manufactured by the world-renowned amusement ride supplier, Switzerland’s INTAMIN. It was originally installed at the Evergreen Marinoa Resort in Fukuoka, Japan. Due to the resort’s expansion plans, Evergreen Group founder Chang Yung-fa, reluctant to see the then world’s tallest gravity-based ferris wheel disappear, hoped that people in Taiwan could also have the chance to ride it. He generously donated the ferris wheel to Lihpao Group Chairman Wu Baotian, symbolizing a “Wheel of Friendship.” The hope was that one day it would stand on Taiwanese soil, making Sky Dream the world’s only relocatable ferris wheel.

Attendees at today’s (the 13th) inauguration ceremony included Vice President of the Legislative Yuan Tsai Chi-chang, Deputy Director-General of the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Chang Hsi-tsung, Vice Mayor of Taichung City Government Zhang Guangyao, President of the Taichung City Council Lin Shih-chang, and General Manager Dai Chin-chuan of Evergreen Group / Evergreen International Corporation. Among them, Vice President of the Legislative Yuan Tsai Chi-chang addressed Lihpao Group Chairman Wu Baotian, saying: “We look forward to the launch of Taiwan’s largest and one of the world’s top ten ferris wheels to, in coordination with the government’s policies on mid-entry/mid-exit and southbound development, drive Taiwan’s tourism growth and boost the economy of greater Taichung’s tourism sector.”

Reaching a total height of 384 meters, Sky Dream isa new Taiwan landmark visible from National Freeways 1, 3, and 4, high-speed rail trains, and Taichung International Airport.Riding this ferris wheel, visitors can by day take in views of Sanyi Flame Mountain, the Snow Mountain Range, the landscape from Houli to downtown Taichung, and even the sunset over the Taiwan Strait. By night, the wheel lights up brilliantly, resembling a dazzling giant jewel disc that complements the urban and rural nightscape beautifully.

In addition to its impressive engineering and scenery, the Sky Dream ferris wheel also incorporates many user-friendly features,including fast-track entry, dedicated accessible pathways allowing wheelchairs direct access into cabins, air conditioning, free charging stations, and emergency call systems inside the cabins.To allow visitors to take photos and livestream from high altitudes,the park has partnered with Chunghwa Telecom to provide free Wi-Fi, breaking existing technical limits by building Taiwan’s first-ever high-altitude circular and mesh wireless network structure.This ensures uninterrupted Wi-Fi signal even while the ferris wheel is in motion, letting visitors share their joy of riding in real time.
