According to data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), among foreign visitors to Japan from January to November this year, those from mainland China ranked first with 6.791 million, followed by South Korea with 6.461 million, and Taiwan with 4.244 million in third place. Hong Kong and Thailand took the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. In November alone, Taiwanese visitor numbers exceeded 300,000, marking a 20.8% increase compared to the same month last year—an astonishing growth rate. Moreover, the total number of Taiwanese visitors to Japan from January to November has already surpassed the full-year figure of 4.167 million recorded in 2016.

The JNTO attributes the significant surge in Taiwanese travel to Japan to increased flight frequencies, more regional charter flights, a rise in cruise ship port calls, and the arrival of the autumn foliage season. Enhanced marketing efforts targeting the Taiwanese market have also contributed to the rapid increase in visitor numbers.
