Scull boat races, canoeing experiences — Penghu Beach Carnival goes wild for three months

Summer is the perfect time for island getaways, and Penghu in Taiwan, blessed with beautiful bays, has this year combined its beaches and fishing harbors for the first time to launch a series of beach carnival activities. The three-month event kicked off on July 27th, with a different theme each week. The Penghu National Scenic Area Administration invites travelers to come and experience Penghu’s sunshine, beaches, ocean, and the warmth of the local people.

The opening is just the prelude to the “2013 Penghu Beach Carnival.” For almost three months throughout the summer, there are activities scheduled every week, with around 20 exciting programs offering all-round and diverse beach experiences. Activities include thrilling survival camps, where you can take part in heart-pounding survival games under the guidance of professional instructors, using Penghu’s unique terrain as the backdrop to devise strategies and test your limits. There will also be fun beach volleyball matches, followed by beach music parties at night, featuring well-known DJ tracks that let visitors dance wildly under the moonlight. In addition, there are island-style events such as scull boat races with Penghu’s traditional wooden boats — the big-eye sampans, as well as wind surfing and canoeing experiences.

For more relaxed activities, there will be open-air movie screenings where you can enjoy films on the beach, either sitting or lying down, with the sea breeze in your face — a truly delightful experience. Additionally, the Penghu Scenic Area Administration has arranged a series of concerts, making the beach under moonlight even more atmospheric with live music.

This carnival has also opened its doors to musicians. Through an online platform, musicians from all over are invited to participate, giving more artists the opportunity to showcase their talents in this unique setting.
