Top 10 Global Food Destinations Include Taipei, Where Xiaolongbao Is the Most Recommended Dish

The food blog Bunkycooks has selected the world’s top 10 food destinations, and Taipei has made the list. The blog believes that Taipei offers some of the best soup noodles, dumplings, and other foods in the world, and specifically highlights xiaolongbao as the most popular street food snack.

The Bunkycooks food blog was established in 2009. Its author has traveled around the world to report on food and has also interviewed many renowned chefs. In this selection of the world’s top 10 food destinations, Taipei is included, though the list does not feature a strict ranking.

The author of the Bunkycooks blog believes that Taipei’s street food stalls blend Taiwanese and Chinese cultures, featuring seasonal ingredients and fresh vegetables, and offer some of the best soup noodles, dumplings, and other foods in the world. The author also singles out xiaolongbao as the most popular street food, which many chefs have even introduced in the United States.

In addition to Taipei, other destinations on the list include southern France, Barcelona in Spain, Italy, Mexico City, Morocco, London in the UK, New Orleans and New York in the US, and Charleston in South Carolina. Bunkycooks considers Charleston to be currently the best food tourism destination in the world, primarily due to its rich food culture. This coastal city boasts many stunning buildings, with highly-rated restaurants located close to one another, as well as many talented chefs, unique ingredients, and fresh seafood from the East Coast.

The blog points out that food tourism is becoming increasingly popular. When pursuing food travel, people also learn about local culture, education, history, and human stories through the cuisine—all of which are just as important as the food itself.
