When flying to various countries, Taiwanese tourists often make transit stops in Hong Kong, and occasional flight delays are inevitable. However, recently, a passenger reportedly booked a Cathay Pacific flight from Taipei to Malaysia with a transfer in Hong Kong, only to be asked to fly to Vietnam first before finally heading to Malaysia. The return trip also encountered issues, prompting the passenger to file a complaint with the media. In response, Cathay Pacific stated that everything was handled according to standard operating procedures and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.

According to a complaint received by Apple Daily, a passenger recently took a Cathay Pacific flight from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur via a transfer in Hong Kong. Upon arriving in Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific claimed there was a flight scheduling issue and that the original flight was canceled, forcing the passenger to take a Vietnam Airlines flight to Vietnam before continuing on to Malaysia, which disrupted their travel plans.

Then, on the return trip, the passenger again faced missing their connecting flight, and there was also an aircraft malfunction. This led the complaining passenger to suspect that Cathay Pacific deliberately prevented them from making their connection, possibly due to overbooking during peak season, with connecting passengers being the ones to suffer.

Cathay Pacific responded that the outbound flight was delayed due to ground operations at Taoyuan Airport, so they arranged for passengers to board the nearest available flight to their destination as per standard procedure. On the return trip, the flight from Kuala Lumpur was delayed due to air traffic control, and the originally scheduled flight was further delayed due to mechanical issues, causing inconvenience to passengers. They expressed their apologies.
