When flying to various countries, Taiwanese tourists often transit through Hong Kong, and occasional issues such as flight delays are unavoidable. However, recently, a passenger traveling from Taipei to Malaysia with a layover in Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific was asked to first fly to Vietnam before continuing to Malaysia. The return journey also encountered problems, prompting the passenger to file a complaint with the media. In response, Cathay Pacific stated that everything was handled according to standard operating procedures and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
According to a complaint received by Apple Daily, a passenger recently took a Cathay Pacific flight from Taipei to Kuala Lumpur with a layover in Hong Kong. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific informed the passenger that due to flight scheduling issues, the original flight had been canceled, forcing them to take a Vietnam Airlines flight to Vietnam and then continue on to Malaysia, disrupting their travel plans.
On the return journey, the passenger again faced missing their connecting flight and experienced a mechanical issue with the aircraft. This led the complaining passenger to suspect that Cathay Pacific may have deliberately prevented them from transiting, possibly due to overbooking during peak season and using connecting passengers as a way to manage the situation.
Cathay Pacific responded that the outbound flight was delayed due to ground operations at Taoyuan Airport, and therefore, following standard procedures, passengers were arranged on the nearest available flight to their destination. On the return trip, the departure from Kuala Lumpur Airport was delayed due to air traffic control, and the originally scheduled flight was further postponed due to mechanical issues, causing inconvenience to passengers, for which they expressed their apologies.
