The Yellow Rubber Duck floats into Kaohsiung’s Glory Pier for Mid-Autumn Festival; exhibition runs for 1 month

The Yellow Rubber Duck’s first stop in Taiwan is confirmed to be Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu and the Dutch designer Florentijn Hofman officially announced this news today (5th). The Yellow Rubber Duck on display in Kaohsiung will be the largest in Asia and the second largest in the world, standing 18 meters tall (approximately six stories high). It will be exhibited at Glory Pier from September 19 to October 20, with the city expecting to attract over 3 million visitors.

Artist Florentijn Hofman, visiting Taiwan for the first time, said that the Yellow Rubber Duck was conceived and designed in 2001, hoping to connect people around the world through the duck, bringing global distances closer and making the world feel like one big family. He hopes that the Yellow Rubber Duck’s visit to Taiwan will bring joy to the Taiwanese people.

Government Information Office Director Lai Jui-long pointed out that after the Yellow Rubber Duck’s exhibition in Hong Kong, over 300 cities worldwide expressed interest, and more than 20 domestic organizations were keen. However, Hofman only contacted three of them, eventually choosing Kaohsiung as the first exhibition city in Taiwan, with the memorandum of understanding signed in mid-June. Hofman also hopes to share production techniques with the other two cities after producing the duck in Kaohsiung first, spreading the message of love and peace associated with the duck.

The Kaohsiung City Government Information Office stated that the Yellow Rubber Duck on display in Kaohsiung will be the largest in Asia and the second largest in the world, standing 18 meters tall (approximately six stories high), with a floating platform base diameter of 15 meters. Starting from Mid-Autumn Festival, it will be exhibited for free at Glory Pier for a period of one month. On the afternoon of Mid-Autumn Festival, the Yellow Rubber Duck will officially enter the harbor.
