Top 50 Most Checked-In Places on Facebook Worldwide – Taoyuan Airport and Taipei Railway Station Make the List

Travel website Skift has released a list of the 50 most popular Facebook check-in spots around the world in 2012, most of which are airports. Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport and Taipei Railway Station both made the cut, with Taoyuan Airport ranking 18th and Taipei Railway Station 48th.

Coming in at No. 1 is Los Angeles International Airport, commonly known as LAX, which recorded over 2.2 million check-ins last year. Ranks 2 to 6 are taken by Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Hong Kong, and Denver airports respectively. Ranking 7th is Disneyland, followed by Seattle and Bangkok airports at 8th and 9th, and Times Square at 10th.

Skift noted that people enjoy checking in at airports and sharing their travels with friends on Facebook. Of the top 50 most checked-in places on Facebook globally, 38 are airports—particularly those in the United States, which dominate the list, followed by Asian airports. The only non-airport spots in the top 10 are California’s Disneyland and New York’s Times Square. Meanwhile, four Major League Baseball stadiums also made the list: those of the San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport ranked 18th with over 700,000 check-ins, while Taipei Railway Station came in at 48th with 28,814 check-ins. Skift also tracked the number of “likes” received after each check-in; Disneyland in California received over 17 million likes on its 1.21 million check-ins, far surpassing all other locations.
