CNN selects world’s 12 best sunset spots; Kenting’s Guan Mountain makes the list

Taiwan is truly stunningly beautiful. Following its previous features on 40 must-try Taiwanese dishes, Taiwan’s top 10 small tourist towns, and hidden travel gems in Taipei, the U.S. Cable News Network (CNN) has once again recommended the sunset at Guan Mountain in Kenting as one of the 12 best places in the world to watch the sunset.

Taiwan’s beauty shines on the international stage once again. This time, CNN features the world’s 12 most stunning sunset spots, with internationally renowned destinations including Uluru and Kata Tjuta in central-northern Australia, Aci Trezza fishing village in Catania, Italy, the Grand Canyon in the United States, Dubai, and China’s West Lake, among others. The famous Guan Mountain sunset in Kenting, Taiwan, is also included. CNN’s website notes that the best spot to enjoy the sunset at Guan Mountain is at Fu De Temple located behind the mountain.

Located in the southwest of the Hengchun Peninsula, Guan Mountain is an uplifted coral reef plateau with an elevation of about 152 meters. Due to its high elevation, it offers the perfect vantage point to watch the evening glow and gaze across the various regions of the Hengchun Peninsula. The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications says that in southern Taiwan, whether you’re strolling through the rosy hues of dawn or sunset, admiring the mangrove forests and azure coastlines at Taiwan’s southernmost point, or observing unique geological formations and rich flora and fauna in their natural habitat.

Beyond sunsets, the Tourism Bureau also points out that there are many great spots around the country to watch the sunrise or greet the first light of dawn. Locations such as Fulong and Sandiao Cape in the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area, Sun Moon Lake in Nantou, Alishan, Sanxiantai in Taitung, and Bishan in Beigan Township, Matsu, are all romantic spots to admire a beautiful sunrise.
