Spend a night in an old "historic" mansion！ A 78-year-old historic homestay in Xiluo for NT$15,000

Spend a night in a historic site！ Xiluo’s Yanping Old Street is full of traditional charm, and recently welcomed its first “luxury” homestay — named Xiluo Historic Homestay — priced at NT$15,000 per night, making it the highest-end accommodation in Yunlin. Guests can enjoy staying in an entire traditional house renovated from the 78-year-old Jeap Fa Kan Kee Tea House, with interior decorations and furnishings that are precious historical artifacts. More importantly, they can spend the night in an old street filled with cultural and artistic atmosphere.

“What we’re selling is the atmosphere of old street culture,” said Ho Mei-hui, head of the homestay’s management team and CEO of the Luoyang Cultural and Educational Foundation. At first glance, the NT$15,000 per night price may seem steep, but guests get to enjoy an entire historic building with classic, elegant decor. The surrounding old buildings, historic sites, and cultural centers on the old street are also rich in art and culture. When asked if the pricing might deter the average visitor, Ho responded: “Staying in an ancient castle in Europe for one night costs a fortune — compared to that, staying in Xiluo Old Street for a night, especially when split among about 10 people, is relatively much more affordable.”

The entire homestay spans over 100 ping (approximately 330 square meters), accommodating up to 12 people. Facilities include a TV lounge, social hall, study room, art gallery, and bedrooms. The main bedroom features three tatami-sized beds that were left behind by the original owner. Ho Mei-hui pointed out that it's perfect for families or groups of friends. Although the homestay is classic and traditional, its facilities are very “modern,” equipped not only with TVs and computers but also offering free Wi-Fi. To keep up with the current “bike boom,” the homestay also provides free bicycles for getting around.

The homestay was originally the Jeap Fa Tea House, built in 1935, and has retained its original Japanese-style street-front architecture. The column capitals with plaster carvings, exposed aggregate concrete, and terrazzo flooring are all classic construction techniques from the Japanese colonial period. After the tea house closed in 1986, it was offered to the Luoyang Cultural and Educational Foundation 11 years ago and was turned into the Xiluo Yanping Old Street Cultural Museum. Ho Mei-hui explained that due to budget constraints, only a small part could be repaired each year, but this year the entire building has been fully renovated and transformed into a homestay for public experience. The income will also help the foundation sustain its operations.
