Embark on an in-depth journey through the ancient town of Hengchun. Pingtung’s Hengchun Ancient Town was recently selected as an international charm destination. In response, the county government launched the “Hengchun Fun, Youth Unleashed” ancient town leisure tour campaign, offering 1- to 3-day tours that guide visitors in exploring attractions around Hengchun Ancient Town. In addition to static heritage sightseeing, the tours also include experiences such as a visit to the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium to explore natural ecology, as well as trips to Qikong Waterfall and Longpan Park to experience the peninsula’s mountain and coastal scenery. The one-day tour starts at just NT$599.

The “Hengchun Fun, Youth Tour” Hengchun Ancient Town leisure tour runs from August 19 to September 15. Participants can take a shuttle from Kaohsiung for a one-day trip to Hengchun. The in-depth guided tour of the ancient town, including meals, is available for just NT$599. Travelers who wish to extend their adventure can upgrade for an additional NT$499 to enjoy a two-day tour, experiencing the mountain and sea views of Sheding Park and Longpan Park. Those with more time can opt for an additional NT$799 to arrange a three-day tour, exploring Qikong Waterfall and the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium.

The county government stated that Hengchun Ancient Town has completed renovations of its old streets, Langqiao Square, and tourism route signage. Additionally, the “Floating City Wall,” which connects the north and east gates of the ancient town and spans over Hengchun Junior High School, has been newly built. Hengchun is currently the only town in Taiwan that still retains all four city gates — east, west, south, and north — and is also a national second-class historic site.

The county government’s Department of Tourism and Communication stated that due to Hengchun’s strong sunlight, all participants in this leisure tour package will receive a complimentary sunshade hat. Travelers who sign up for the 2- or 3-day tours will also receive limited-edition sunscreen and face masks. The county government also provides vouchers for Hengchun’s famous ice shops to help people cool off during the summer heat.
