Ring in the New Year in Hong Kong & indulge in delicious food: The Victoria Harbour New Year’s Eve fireworks show will be the largest ever!

As 2017 comes to a close, many people choose to ring in the New Year in Hong Kong. This year, Victoria Harbour will feature a 10-minute New Year’s Eve fireworks and music show, integrating a variety of sound, light, and visual effects, with the display covering over 35% more area than last year—making it the most magnificent celebration yet. In addition, the exterior of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, one of the city’s iconic buildings, will display the huge number “2018”, and for the first time, Europe award-winning fireworks will be used. Designed with the creative idea of fairies scattering glittering stardust across the night sky of Victoria Harbour, the show will feature a scene called “Stardust Magic” to deliver New Year blessings.

Before the countdown begins, the renowned Australian performance troupe “Strange Fruit” will present their globally premier show “Deco-Sphere” starting at 10:00 PM on December 31st in the area around Tsim Sha Tsui’s Star Ferry Pier. At 11:00 PM, five buildings on Hong Kong Island will launch four-colour “Wishing Star” fireworks from their rooftops every 15 minutes, symbolizing sweetness, health, happiness, and prosperity, allowing both locals and visitors to make their New Year wishes.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board stated that stunning fireworks can be enjoyed at various locations across Hong Kong Island and Kowloon that night. Prime viewing spots include: Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade Garden, the coastal area near the Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s outdoor plaza, Central Harbourfront, around the Central Piers 9 and 10, as well as Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai. After the countdown, people can also head to the bars in Lan Kwai Fong, Central, for a night of revelry, or visit local street food stalls and cha chaan tengs to feast on Hong Kong’s delicious cuisine.
