Japan’s new low-cost carrier “Vanilla Air” to officially launch at the end of November

After the two major shareholders, All Nippon Airways (ANA) and AirAsia, went their separate ways, ANA recently announced that the new low-cost airline taking over operations from Japan Asia Airways will be “Vanilla Air,” which is set to officially begin operations before the end of the year.

When President Tomonori Ishii officially announced the news, he said that out of more than 200 name options, “Vanilla” was chosen as it was favored by many. Vanilla Air will take over from Japan Asia Airways and officially begin operations in November, with routes and fares to be announced by the end of September. The 420 employees previously working for Japan Asia Airways will continue to serve at the new airline. The newly established Vanilla Air will focus on international tourist destinations, and the airline will be based at Narita Airport in the future.
