Condom Manufacturing Factory Exposed: A Blush-Inducing Experience

Taiwan’s first-ever condom tourism factory, the “Taiwan Fujicondom Knowledge Museum,” officially opened on August 26. The museum showcases various contraceptive tools and methods, knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS, as well as a blush-inducing production and testing process walkway for condoms.

Taiwan Fujiconduit, located in Tamsui District, was established in 1972. Starting in 1981, it supplied condoms specifically for family planning across Taiwan and has provided strong support to academic and public welfare groups in STD prevention and AIDS care. Yu Chiqiing, chairman of Fujiconduit, stated that they do not encourage premarital sex, but in recent years, due to the trend of younger people engaging in sexual activity and contracting STDs and AIDS, they decided to transform into a tourism factory. Through a lighthearted and humorous approach, they aim to convey the message of “protecting oneself and respecting one’s partner” in sexual education.

The “Taiwan Fujicondom Knowledge Museum” is a tourism factory assisted and guided by New Taipei City. Ye Huiqing, Director of the Economic Development Bureau of New Taipei City, said that currently, New Taipei City has the most tourism factories among local governments. There are still five guided businesses in progress, expected to open successively before the end of the year, increasing the total number from the current 15 to 20. He expressed hope that the Taiwan Fujicondom Knowledge Museum can share industrial culture and convey correct educational knowledge through the tourism factory.

The tourism factory is divided into a knowledge museum and a production process walkway. The knowledge museum uses an entertaining and educational approach to display content. As soon as you enter, there is an interactive short film, and along the walkways, there are introductions to gender concepts, STDs, and the functions of various contraceptive tools or methods. Visitors can also observe staff through glass windows who are testing condoms. As for the condom production walkway, visitors can see workers operating behind glass, with informational panels explaining each step of the process—from testing to packaging.

Yu Chiqiing, Chairman of Taiwan Fujiconduit, said that in recent years, there has been a trend of younger people engaging in sexual activity and contracting STDs and AIDS. After the transformation, they hope to use a more relaxed, humorous, rational, and emotional atmosphere to communicate the correct sexual values of “protecting oneself and respecting one’s partner.”

The “Taiwan Fujicondom Knowledge Museum” not only introduces condoms but also hopes for students to be exposed to proper sexual concepts at an earlier age, satisfies the general public’s curiosity about condoms, and welcomes visits from academia and health educators. Additionally, the museum has a 42-person media briefing room that uses videos to fully present all the steps in condom production. It also includes Q&A sessions and DIY games to interact with visitors.

The “Taiwan Fujicondom Knowledge Museum” is located in a relatively remote area of Tamsui District and is not easily accessible by public transport. Moreover, the museum operates by appointment only, accepting group visits of 20 or more people with at least one week’s advance notice.

I. By Car
Take Denghui Boulevard toward Sanzhi and Jinshan. Arrive at No. 2, Section 3, Tanjin Road (7-11 Convenience Store), go forward about 30 meters, turn right at the traffic light to start ascending (North Route 6), continue for about 600 meters, then turn right at the archway, and then make another right turn to reach the destination. The factory is about 200 meters from the Industrial Research Institute Yishouduo Cultural Museum.
II. By Public Transport
Take the MRT to Hongshulin Station and transfer to a taxi (approximately 15 minutes by car).
Take the MRT to Tamsui Station and transfer to a bus (approximately 30 minutes by bus). Tamsui Bus: No. 870 (Tamsui MRT Station — Zhongshan), get off at Changtian’an Station; F109 Bus (Beitou, Pidao Line): available at Tamsui MRT Station, get off at Changtian’an Station.
